Carol was born July 24, 1961 to David “Bud” and Patricia “Joan” (Harrison) Klingensmith. When Carol was only 5 years old her mother passed away. One year later her father married Elaine Heinzig Todd who loved Carol as her own. Carol was raised in the Kingsley area andgraduated from Kingsley Pierson High School in 1979.
She was united in marriage to Robert Kabisch on October 24,1978 at Salem Lutheran Church where she was a longtime member. She also volunteered on the Fellowship Committee, the Funeral Committee and served as a Sunday school teacher.
Carol started her career in the kitchen while in high school, working at various places around the Kingsley area, including Ed’s Cafe, the Nursing Home, Dairy King and Pizza Hut. Her passion for cooking evolved into the family business of Carol’s Kitchen. She was extremely devoted and busy with her catering business. For the last twenty-six years, Carol could be found in the 4-H Food Stand during fair week. Carol was well known for her pies. On average, she made about 200 to 255 pies during fair week, and on average made over 2,250 each year.
Carol also stayed busy helping within the community, or at various craft shows and farmers markets. Robert and Carol were faithful vendors at the Sioux City Farmer’s Market for 18 years selling Carol’s cookies candies, and pies. They also stayed very involved with the Plymouth County Fair and were inducted into the 4-H Hall of Fame in 2024 for their many years of dedication. Carol was an assistant leader of the Youth club and served on the 4-H and Youth Committee for a couple of years. Carol began helping in the 4-H Food Stand in 2000 and continued faithfully to ensure it’s success every year since.
Carol had many talents and skills that she was generous with sharing in many communities. She used every opportunity to make friendships and truly loved her friends and customers, remaining devoted to their need until her final days.
Carol loved spending time with her family. Carol loved being a grandma to her three grandchildren, Adam, Michael, and Abby. She dropped everything the moment any of her grandchildren would request a special treat.
