Kingsley, Iowa – Duane G. Groth, 68, of Kingsley, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at his home. Funeral services will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 17, 2012 at the Johnson – Earnest Funeral Home in Kingsley. Rev. Duane Miesner of First Lutheran Church in Kingsley will officiate. Burial will follow at Kingsley Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at the Johnson - Earnest Funeral Home with the family present from 5-7 p.m. Visitation will resume at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
Duane Glenn Groth was born on March 27, 1944 in Battle Creek, Iowa, the son of Glenn and Wilma (Schmidt) Groth. He attended school in Kinsley, graduating from high school in 1962. Following high school, Duane worked as a truck Driver. On November 4, 1965 Duane enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He proudly served his country until earning his Honorable Discharge November 3, 1967.
Duane returned to Kingsley after the service and attended Western Iowa Tech Community College in Sioux City. He then took a position as a hog buyer at the Sioux City Stockyards. When the stockyards closed Duane and his friend Janet moved to Arnolds Park, Iowa. Duane worked at the amusement park along with performing odd jobs for Handy Andy’s Lawn Service. They moved to Tahlequah, Oklahoma to spend their retirement years. When Janet, his companion of thirty years, passed away in 2009 Duane returned to Kingsley to be closer to his family.
In earlier years Duane enjoyed bus trips to football games. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion. He could often be found driving around the area and visiting with friends and former co-workers.
He is survived by his sisters, Darnell (Clair) Clausen of Apache Junction, AZ, Diane (Terry) Mahrt, Denise (Denny) Dugan and Donita (David) Murray, all of Kingsley; 12 nieces and nephews; 22 great-nieces and nephews; 2 great-great nephews; and other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and his companion, Janet Murphy.
