Marguerite Loretta Herbold was born on May 3, 1921 in Pierson Iowa to Burt and Frieda (Albers) Petersen. She was one of five children. She spoke fondly of her childhood in Pierson Iowa where she also graduated from High School.
She met the love of her life and forever soul mate, Junior Herbold to whom she married on December 5, 1940. They remained married for 69 years before Junior’s passing on October 10, 2010. They made their home together on a farm near Kingsley Iowa where they raised their five children.
Marguerite enjoyed the simple things in life. She was a long time member of the First Lutheran Church in Kingsley Iowa. The Lord was the center of Marguerite’s everyday life and she never missed a Sunday service. She enjoyed faithfully reading her daily devotions. She was an avid reader from day one; making it difficult for the library ladies to find new books to deliver to her home. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed first Sunday of the month family dinners around the table. Her children and grandkids will remember her for her molasses cookies, crispy baked macaroni and big meals with homemade ice cream and chocolate sauce.
When Marguerite wasn’t busy raising her family, she was working as an elementary lunch lady (for 7 years in Arizona) before returning back to Moville where she loved her time working behind the desk at Dianne’s Dance. She was the biggest supporter at the dance studio, a grandma to many dancers and couldn’t wait for the dance competitions & yearly recitals every spring.
In her last years she enjoyed her phone calls and surprise visits from Mike and Monty, her Friday dinners with Craig, special outings with Dianne and Wednesdays with Scott’s family. She looked forward to her weekly visits with her grandson Maxon, even though she rarely won the games they played together for some reason.
Marguerite was a gift and a treasure and many of us are better to have known her.
Left to treasure her memory are her five children; Michael (Evelyn) Herbold of Mission, TX, Dianne (Steve) Riser of Moville, IA, Craig (Linda) Herbold of Sioux City, IA, Monty Herbold (fiancé Stacy) of Mesa, AZ and Scott (Suzanne) Herbold of Lawton, IA; sister-in-law, Gola (Roger “Red”) Bales of Sioux City, IA; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and wonderful friends!
Waiting for her in heaven is her husband, Junior; parents, Burt & Frieda; her three sisters, Caroline Christophersen, Lois Pottorff and Sylvia Betsworth; and her brother, Ervin Petersen.
