Wenona Janssen

December 29, 1913 — November 5, 2016

Wenona Ella Janssen, 102, of Kingsley, Iowa passed away on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at Kingsley Specialty Care. A Memorial Service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 10, 2016 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Moville, Iowa. Rev. Barb Spalding will officiate. Burial will follow at the Kingsley Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at the Johnson – Earnest Funeral Home in Kingsley. The family will be present from 5 – 7 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the services on Thursday.

Wenona Ella Miille was born on December 29, 1913 in Newcastle, Nebraska, the daughter of Albert and Agnes (Becker) Miille. She attended country school until the tenth grade. She then graduated from Newcastle High School in 1931. Following school, Wenona took a position as a nanny in Sioux City, Iowa. It was in Sioux City that she met Clifford Charles Monk. They were married on January 9, 1936.Together they farmed northeast of Sioux City for a few years prior to moving to Moville, Iowa. They continued farming near Moville and Wenona worked as a nurses’ aid at St. Luke’s Hospital in Sioux City. Clifford passed away on September 12, 1960 and Wenona moved into Moville.

Wenona worked at the Moville school as a cook for a few years. She married Roy L. Janssen on July 3, 1965 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Moville. They also farmed near Moville until retirement. In 1992, Wenona and Roy moved to Kingsley. Roy passed away on February 8, 1999. In February, Wenona moved to Kingsley Specialty Care.

Wenona was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Moville. She was active in quilting, the Woodbury County Fair, gardening and liked to sew Barbie doll clothes.

She is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Marlene and Jerry Witt of Lawton, IA and Linda and Chet Davis of Kingsley, IA; a daughter-in-law, Jan Monk of Sioux City, IA; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Steve (Janet) Witt and Tamas, Cheryl Witt, Kelli (Dave) Barngrover, Chauncey, Zach (Jami), Megan and Emalynne, Jason (Carmen) Monk, Henry and Sam, Staci (Bruce) Nelson, August and Lovisa, Shannon (Joe) Phelan, Samantha (Blake) Headley, C.J. and Lee, Heather (Mike) Vos, Rachael and Reagan, Shelby (Cole) Harvey, Jacob, Bradi and Josh, and Heath Davis; 2 sisters, Ruby Metzger of Northern California and June Sherman of Vermillion, South Dakota; a brother, Melvin Miille of Ocean City, MD; a sister-in-law, Pauline Miille of Omaha, NE; several step-children and step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Clifford and Roy; a son, Wade Monk; a sister, Nora; and brothers, Walter, Arnold, Nels and Gilbert.
