Herman Junior Rock better known as Jim, was born in Pierson, Iowa on September 8th, 1940. His parents were Herman and Ethel (Glover) Rock. He lived his entire life in Pierson and graduated from Pierson High School. He married the love of his life, Darla (Bennar) Rock on May 3rd, 1959. They married while Darla was still in high school at the Kingsley Methodist Church because Jim was shipping out to the Navy and they wanted to be married before he left. He served in the Navy beginning in May 1959. They have lived on the Rock Century Farm near Pierson for 65 years.
Jim was involved in farming his entire life, sold insurance and worked 27 years at the Farmers Savings Bank in Pierson. He furthered his education by getting a Graduate Degree from the University of Wisconsin Graduate School of Banking. He was an active member of the Pierson United Methodist church since his youth. Jim and Darla served as youth leaders for the church for many years. He enjoyed fishing, traveling, and an occasional Busch Light with friends. If you were lucky enough to imbibe with him, you probably heard him tell a funny story or two. He may have even repeated a story once in a while.
Jim and Darla have four children: Darcy Groepper, married to Dave; Randy Rock, married to Julie; Darman Rock (Cathy Levering "Cat") and Dawn Kuchel (Frank Nacke).
Dave and Darcy have three children Denae Pottebaum (Jim), Abbie Susie (Tim) and Chad Groepper (Stephanie). Denae has two children, a son, Dax, and a daughter, Piper, and two stepchildren, Brady and Maddie. Abbie has two sons, Weston and Beau. Chad has one daughter Clarissa.
Randy and Julie have three sons, Zachary (fiancé Laura), Nick (Veronica) and Dylan (Donica). Zach and Laura have a child on the way. Nick and Veronica have a son, Sebastian. Dylan and Donica have two daughters, Malone and Murphie.
Darman has four children, daughters Whitney, Savanah and Mallory, and a son Mitchell (Jenny). Whitney has a daughter, Kate, a daughter Claire, and son Bennett. Mitchell has three children, a son Isaac, a daughter, Merritt, and a daughter, Norah.
Dawn has three children, two sons, Camden (Kimberly) and Carter (fiancé Mallory) and a daughter Haylee. Camden has four children and another on the way: a son Easton, a daughter Joanna, a daughter Natalie and a son Wilson.
Jim was always a numbers guy and as you can see, he produced numbers, 13 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren and more to come.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Ethel Rock, sister Venona Parker and Mina Koch. One grandchild Chad Groepper and one great grandchild Wilson Kuchel.
He is survived by Millie, his beloved labrador.
Casket bearers will be Zach Rock, Nick Rock, Dylan Rock, Mitch Rock, Camden Kuchel, Carter Kuchel, Jim Pottebaum and Tim Susie.
All the family members want to thank you for being part of Jim’s life. As you know, he was a fun-loving guy, and we will all miss him. We’re pretty sure that he’s holding a Bible, a Busch Light, and a fishing pole on the perfect catfishing stream.
