September 7, 1936 – March 7, 2025
Marilyn Richardson, age 88, of Kingsley, IA went to be with her heavenly Father surrounded by her family, on March 7, 2025, at Unity Point Health-St. Luke’s Hospital in Sioux City, Iowa.
Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday March 14, 2025 at First Lutheran Church in Kingsley, IA with Pastor Jason Letsche officiating. Visitation with family present will be 5-7 p.m. on Thursday at Kingsley Funeral Home and Monument/Rhode Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will resume 9:30 a.m. Friday at the church.
Marilyn LaVonne Clausen was born September 7, 1936, on a farm east of Anthon, Iowa, the daughter of William and Marcella (Herbold) Clausen. Her family moved to Kingsley in 1945, graduating from Kingsley High School in 1954. She attended college in Winfield, Kansas.
She married the love of her life, Keith Richardson on April 27, 1955, while Keith was in the Army. When Keith was discharged from the service they returned to the Kingsley area. Over the years, Marilyn had several part-time jobs with various Kingsley businesses including her first job at the Council Oak Grocery during high school. In 1968, their family moved to the Richardson Family Farm. Upon retirement in 2011, Keith and Marilyn moved to their present home in Kingsley. Keith went to his heavenly home on September 2, 2021.
Marilyn was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Kingsley, where she also taught Sunday school and served on many committees. She loved telling everyone she met how much she loved her Savior and about His faithfulness in her life! She was a member of TTT and a 4-H leader. Marilyn had many hobbies including cooking, sewing. photography, scrapbooking, gardening and entertaining family and friends in her home. She especially loved having tea parties with her granddaughters or providing mud for the grandsons to play in!
Those left to cherish her memories are her children: Kathy (Frank) Collins, Mark (Debbie) Richardson, Brian Richardson and special friend Lora, Mike Richardson, and Linda (Rick) Mercer. Grandchildren: Jason (Becky) Collins, Jamie (Chris) Johnson, Justin (Lisa) Collins, Sean (Sarah) Richardson, Chad Richardson, Matt (Kendra) Richardson, Morgan Richardson, Jesse (Stephanie) Richardson, Dustin (Mandie) Richardson, Joel (Kristina) Richardson, Trisha (Brendan) France, Ashley (Steve) Schmillen, Stella Curry, Holly Woods, Lucas Richardson, Emma Richardson, Ryan Mercer, Robby (Katlyn) Mercer and Rachel (Carter) Van Gorp along with 32 great grandchildren. Brothers: Larry Clausen, Dennis (Deb) Clausen, Darold (Carolyn) Clausen. Sister-in-law, Darnell Clausen and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband Keith, parents Bill and Marcella, parents-in-law, Weston and Emma (Johnson) Richardson, brother Clair Clausen, sister and brother in-law Marcia (Larry) Walker, sister-in-law Sharon Clausen and in-laws Ruby (Robert) Kabisch, and a great grandson, Kegan Collins.
