June 14, 1929 — February 16, 2013

Pierson, Iowa - Theresa M. McQueen, 83, of Pierson, Iowa passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 16, 2013, at the Correctionville Nursing & Rehab Center. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at the Salem Lutheran Church, rural Correctionville, Iowa, with Rev. Lorene K. Glant officiating. Burial will be at the Greenwood Cemetery in Pierson, Iowa. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at the Johnson – Earnest Funeral Home in Kingsley, with the family present from 6-8 p.m. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the service on Wednesday.

Theresa Margaret Benedix was born on June 14, 1929 on the William Hoppe farm, north of Correctionville, Iowa to Fred L. and Marie (Michaelsen) Benedix. Theresa attended country school, Rutland #7, through the 8th grade and graduated from Pierson High School in 1947. After high school, Theresa attended beauty school and went on to operate a beauty salon in Anthon, Iowa. On October 15, 1949, Theresa married Daker McQueen at the Salem Lutheran Church in rural Correctionville. Theresa owned a beauty salon in Pierson for a few years after they were married. While raising a family, Theresa was a book keeper for the businesses that she and Daker owned. In 1954, they started a Culligan franchise in Pierson, a family business that has continued for 59 years. They also operated a laundromat, the 3-D Speedway go-kart track, and Hillside Miniature Golf Course in Pierson. Theresa and Daker purchased McQueen Monument in 1971 after W.C. McQueen passed away. The business was later sold to their son Joel in 1989.

Theresa was a member of the Salem Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School and was a member of the Pierson Federated Women’s Club. Theresa was a member of the Pierson Rescue Squad after taking EMT training.

Theresa will be lovingly remembered by her children, Joel McQueen of Pierson, IA; Sheila (Jerry) Klaschen of Pierson, IA; and Sharen (David) Borchers of Holstein, IA; grandchildren, Trisha Davis and fiancé Lee Peterson of Sioux City, IA; Gregory Davis of Holstein, IA; John (Connie) Borchers and their children, Connor and Jackson, of Fremont, NE; Julie Borchers of Clarksville, TN; sisters-in-law, Delores Benedix of Moville, IA and Marie Benedix of Correctionville, IA; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Daker in 2009; brothers, Fred H. and sister-in-law Shirley Benedix, Dale Benedix, and Robert Benedix; two sisters-in-law and their husbands, Miriam and Delmar Christopherson and Thelma and Max VanBuskirk.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be donated to the Salem Lutheran Church Kitchen Remodeling Fund.
