Secret Plendl

June 28, 1920 — March 19, 2012

Kingsley, Iowa – Secret B. Plendl, 91, passed away on Monday, March 19, 2012 at the Kingsley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 24, 2012 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Kingsley, Iowa. Father Thomas Topf will celebrate Mass. Burial will follow at St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery in Kingsley. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 23, 2012 at the Johnson - Earnest Funeral Home in Kingsley. The family will be present from 5-8 p.m. with a Rosary Service at 5:00 p.m. and a Scriptural Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to Mass on Saturday.
Secret Burdette Plendl was born on June 28, 1920 on the family farm near Kingsley, Iowa, the daughter of E.A. “Del” and Farsina Rosina (Fletcher) Spink. She attended country school near her home and later graduated from Kingsley High School in 1938.
On September 17, 1938 Secret and Edwin John Plendl were united in marriage at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Kingsley. They made their home on a farm near Kingsley. Along with homemaking, Secret worked as a housekeeper and a cook at Union School in Plymouth County. Prior to her retirement in 1983, Secret worked at St. Joseph’s Hospital (now Mercy Medical Center) in Sioux City with Central Supply for 22 years. She and Edwin moved to Kingsley in 1983 to spend their retirement years. Edwin passed away on December 27, 1994.
Secret was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Kingsley and participated in Guild. She served as past-president of Golden Circle and volunteered her spare time at the Kingsley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for 15 years. She enjoyed sewing, reading, word puzzles and making personalized calendars for her family each year.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Dorothy (Don) Kennedy of Katy, TX, Eilene (Bud) Foster of Moville, IA, Bill (Michelle) Plendl of Sioux City, IA and Connie Nolen(significant other Dennis Robeson) of Sioux City, IA; grandchildren, Tim Hayden of Omaha, NE, Gary (Sandy) Hayden of Sioux City, IA, Penny (Ricky) Aichlmayr of Katy, TX, Jeff (Kim) Kennedy of Midland, TX, Bryan (Sue) Swift of Aledo, TX, Brad (Michelle) Swift of Bellevue, NE, Brent (Kari) Swift of Papillion, NE, Shannon (Monte) Jost of Le Mars, IA and Kaden (Tamara) Thieman of Holden, MO; 15 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Beulah Spink and Betty Spink of Kingsley, IA; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edwin; a daughter and son-in-law MaDonna and Larry Swift; a granddaughter, Stacy Swift; an infant sister, Marjorie; a sister and brother-in-law, Sally and Dwight Puttmann; brothers, Jerry and Vance Spink; and in-laws, Alvin and Vera Plendl, Ernie and Helen Gries and Bernard Plendl.
