Bobbie was born on June 27, 1942, in Kingsley, Iowa, to Alvin and Elvera (Lindgren) Plendl. He was raised on the family farm near Kingsley and graduated from Union Consolidated High School in 1960. Even before completing school, Bobbie was deeply involved in the family’s farming and trucking business, where he developed the strong work ethic that would define his life.
On November 24, 1962, he was united in marriage to Anna Lee Siple at St. Michael’s Church in Kingsley, where he remained a lifelong and devoted member. Together, they built a life rooted in faith, family, and hard work. They made their home in Kingsley, where they farmed alongside the Plendl family and raised their four children: Robert Duane (Robbie), Randall Scott (Randy), Rick (Ricci Lee), and Rochelle Renee.
In 1986, Bobbie purchased the Plendl Feed Store, which he operated alongside his trucking business and farming operation. He continued to work side by side with his sons, farming crops and raising hogs, horses and cattle.
Bobbie was a dedicated member of his community. He volunteered as a 4-H leader, served as a president of the Kingsley Rocking K Saddle Club, and represented rural residents on the Plymouth County Landfill Board.
A man of deep faith, Bobbie loved the Lord and lived his life with purpose and generosity. He had a wide range of interests and hobbies throughout the years. In his younger days, he enjoyed racing cars at Stroller Strip-something those who knew him might say suited him well, as he rarely did anything halfway. That appreciation for speed and love of cars stayed with him throughout his life, later becoming a love for NASCAR and an impressive collection of Corvettes and vintage cars. He also enjoyed collecting John Deere tractors.
Bobbie cherished time spent traveling and making memories with loved ones. He enjoyed wintering in Florida and Arizona. During the summer, he found relaxation at their lake home in Okoboji. Back on the farm, he could often be found taking rides in his John Deere Gator, keeping a close eye on things.
Above all, Bobbie’s greatest pride and joy was his family. He deeply loved his wife, Anna Lee, and took great pride in the care he provided for her. His legacy lives on through the many lives he touched.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Anna Lee; three sons, Robbie (Shelly Jensen) Plendl, Randy (Dawn) Plendl, and Rick (Michele) Plendl, all of Kingsley; and one daughter, Rochelle (Cody) Hiles of West Des Moines.
He will also be dearly missed by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; (Robbie’s) Jordan and Megan Plendl (Jase, Lauren, Lydia), Nathan and Sara Plendl (Cal, Claire), Seth and Kendra Plendl (Kailey, Kade); (Randy’s) Lexi Towner (Leo, Ava, Azalea), Scottie Plendl and Erica, Janie Plendl, Dustin Plendl; (Rick’s) Michael and Brittney Hansen (Harper, Blakely), Reyly and Colton, Regan Plendl; (Rochelle’s) Quentin Bartunek, Jayla Joseph, and Livia Hiles.
He is also survived by his brother, Wayne (Gloria) Plendl; sisters Bonita Davison, Cindy Thomas, and Shelly Schweitzberger; brother-in-law James (Lucy) Siple; and many nieces and nephews.
Bobbie was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Elvera; his parents-in-law, Glen and Valira (Bierbower) Siple; his brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Ramona Plendl; brother-in-law, Dean Davison; sister-in-law Linda Siple; nephew Dee Jay Davison; and dear friend Gayle Morgan.
Casket bearers will be his grandsons: Jordan Plendl, Nathan Plendl, Michael Hansen, Seth Plendl, Scottie Plendl, and Dustin Plendl.
Honorary bearers will be his close friends: Brian Castle, Brian Hobbs, Bruce Hundertmark, Lowell Vos, Mike Ratkiewicz, Roger Ludwig and Tom Pithan.
Bobbie will be remembered for his steadfast faith and his strong presence-known to give direction when needed, though those who knew him best understood the heart behind it. His words, “Straight Ahead,” will continue to guide those he loved-reminding them to trust, move forward, and carry on.
