Obituary

William was born on August 24, 1930, the son of LeRoy and Catherine (Geiger) Hamman. He grew up in the Kingsley area he served in the Army during the Korean Conflict as a surveyor and positioned eight inch gun near the front lines from February 21, 1952 until his honorable discharge November 20, 1953. After returning to the Kingsley area he married Marilyn Ferguson June 5, 1954, in Kingsley, Iowa. After their marriage they farmed and raised their family in the Kingsley area. In 1995 they retired from farming and moved to the James area which is a part of Sioux City, Iowa. He enjoyed spending time with his kids and grandchildren, enjoyed driving their Model A in parades and giving rides to his grandchildren. He was an avid reader, bird watcher, loved watching sports particularly Iowa Hawkeyes. He had a passion for gardening and was always planting unusual things. He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Kingsley, Iowa. Survivors include his wife, Marilyn of Sioux City, Iowa, five daughters, Suzanne (Mike) Vande Hoef of LeMars, Iowa, Kathy Lang of Sioux City, Debbie (Forrest) Lambson of Sioux City, Iowa, Diane Fulton (fiance, Michael Payne) of Allen, Texas, and Patti (Steve) Polkinghorn of Moville, Iowa, and one son, Mike (Jenny) Hamman of Kingsley, Iowa ; eleven grandchildren, Amy (John) Riccio, Cody Smith, Chad (Erika) Lang, Heather Lang, Nicole Fulton, Ashley Polkinghorn, Alissa Polkinghorn, Louis Hamman, Jose Hamman, and Sarahy Hamman and seven great - grandchildren, Alexa Riccio, Olivia Riccio, Caden Riccio, Jobie Clousing, Joey Singer, Landon Lang, and Lauren Lang. Also surviving William are three brothers, Wayne (Roberta) Hamman of Libertyville, Illinois, Francis (Linda) Hamman, and James (Millie) Hamman both of Kingsley, Iowa, and two sisters, Darlene (Rex)Shearer of Storm Lake, Iowa and Helen (Roy) Townsend of Washta, Iowa and many nieces and nephews. William was preceded in death by his parents, brother in law, Don Ferguson, and nephews Jim Hamman and John Hamman.
